Bangalore — Coordinated by ANEW Holdings Inc., the 4th Summit of the Bengaluru Tokyo Technology Initiative (BTTI), was held on May 8, 2019 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru. The event was hosted by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in association with the global think tank Carnegie India, and National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM).

Based in Bengaluru and Tokyo, BTTI facilitates the exchange and transfer of technology between India and Japan, hosting a place for members of the public, commercial and academic sectors of both nations to convene. Carnegie India and the Embassy of Japan in India co-hosted the inaugural event in Bengaluru in December 2017. Following the 2nd and 3rd Summits in Tokyo, the 4th Summit was held as a part of the Japan–India Business Seminar ‘Japan-India Innovation Dialogue’ hosted by JETRO in Bengaluru. The event aimed to be a closed space for experts from Japan and India to come together and engage in active discussions regarding global innovation by collaboration between Japan and India in technology and investment and also recommendations of the policy for business environment enhancement.

Notably, 37 delegates from 27 Japanese corporations who traveled to India to participate in JETRO’s Innovation Mission attended the 4th BTTI Summit. A total of 207 attendees representing startups, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, government and academia were present. The organizer, partner and government officials from India and Japan kicked off the summit with opening remarks, whereby Carnegie India’s R.K. Misra chaired a panel discussion with panelists from leading Indian VCs. In addition, 8 Indian startups had the opportunity to introduce their businesses in a pitch session at the Summit. To close out the event, a one-on-one Business Matching Session was held between 9 Japanese companies and 21 Indian startups, all showing a high level of interest and engagement in seeking partnership and investment opportunities.
